In this account, the history of Christian Europe is broken down into five periods: the first from the creation of the world until the arrival of the Romans; the second, from the arrival of the Romans to the rise of the Republic; the third, from the Republic to the fall of the Roman Empire; the fourth, from the fall of the Roman Empire to the rise of Islam; and the fifth, from the rise of Islam to the end of the Middle Ages.
In addition, the account is divided into three sections: the first, from the creation of the world to the arrival of the Romans; the second, from the arrival of the Romans to the rise of the Republic; and the third, from the Republic to the fall of the Roman Empire.
